Learning Outcome 1: Identify and discuss the significance of pūrākau and/ or pakiwaitara in a relevant context
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate the process and protocols of pōwhiri/ pōhiri/ whakatau used in a formal or informal Māori cultural setting
Purpose: This micro-credential aims to empower ākonga with deepend understanding and practical skills in marae protocols and leadership through connection to narratives (pūrākau and/or pakiwaitara) and tikanga Māori. This micro-credential is designed to preserve and promote the rich traditions of Māori culture, ensuring that knowledge of tikanga Māori (Māori customs), te reo Māori (Māori language), and whanaungatanga (relationships) can be utilised in community, business, and educational settings. Ākonga will gain experience in marae protocols, enhancing their ability to contribute meaningfully to their communities and businesses and fostering a strong sense of identity and cultural pride.
Upon completion of this micro credential, ākonga will have developed leadership skills that inform and uphold values of Māori culture. Ākonga will be able to demonstrate knowledge of traditional Māori culture, tikanga Māori, te reo Māori and whanaungatanga through informal or formal settings.
Indicative content: Pūrākau – Migration, Atua Māori, Tīkanga, Art, mātauranga Māori. Pakiwaitara - Iwi, Hapū, Whānau, Toi Māori, Tīkanga, Mātauranga.
